We all took to the waters on Saturday, was a beautiful day! The fish are starting to gloriously appear which was evident from Chuck’s triumphant bag of fish! Congratulations to all those who snagged a few. Hope to see you back next tournament… a word to the wise, don’t forget to put on some braided line for the “Big One”

Why do we fish?

I find myself asking this question especially at times when the fish seem to be elusively hiding or they don’t seem to be feasting on the several different baits I have chosen from the numerous bags that say how irresistible they are to the Big Bass, or the times my fingers have become a natural pin cushion from the exchange of Lures and Plastics just searching for the right one! Not to mention the wind which can blow like a small hurricane which makes sitting on that special spot where I know the fish usually reside impossible. Some will say it is the competitive nature which lets face it is in us all to a point. Or is it the camaraderie with old friends and the exchange of proven techniques? To me it reminds me of the innocence of my youth and the simple pleasures of summer days when all is right with the world and the sun feels so warm and caressing like a soft blanket on a cool spring morning sitting on my uncles screened porch, smelling fresh coffee and listening to the birds rejoicing at the new day in fine chorus looking out over the lake and the darkness giving way to daylight dancing off the water anticipating what trophy’s today’s fishing trip will bring.. The excitement of yes another wonderful day of traveling on what at times appears to be a glass highway to an adventurous wonderland of nature and mysterious creatures beneath us that in our childhood we found so fascinating just waiting to be discovered... Remembering once again it’s ok to let go and allow ourselves the simple pleasures of our innocence to once again fill our day with expectation and hope and for a moment leaving the Grown up world behind in an attempt to capture that spectacular feeling when that tug on our line could possibly be the “Big One” at last…That’s what I remember as I watched Jack preparing for each tournament, perhaps that’s what made him an awesome fisherman. He knew how to bring his faithful companion of expectation, hope and anticipation of the innocence of his childhood. He understood why we fish!!           Hope to see you all around the fishing hole at the next Tournament.

The Lufkin Bass club held it's May tournament out of Monterrey Park on Lake Sam Rayburn on Saturday May 15, 2010. this was the first tournament for the newly reformed club. We had seven member and one guest compete.

Lake Sam Rayburn was tough to say the least. No limits were weighed in, but everyone fishing managed to bring at least one fish to the scales. Reports were that the few fish caught were very shallow and caught on frogs, spinnerbait, and flukes. The weather was rough Friday night with storms moving through until just before daylight.

     Results:

     Jack Yates        7.25
     Robert Justus     5.13
     Chuck Sharp      4.50
